Dur­ing the fall, the ALS Soci­ety of Que­bec is pleased to host var­i­ous vir­tual sup­port groups and activ­i­ties via the Zoom platform*.

Novem­ber 5th - Vir­tual Sup­port Group - For newly diag­nosed ALS mem­bers and their loved ones

Receiv­ing a diag­no­sis of ALS implies its fair share of emo­tions, ques­tions, and changes. In response to a need expressed by the ALS com­mu­nity across Que­bec, we are pleased to announce a sup­port group for peo­ple newly diag­nosed with ALS. The goal is to pro­vide a place to exchange, to pro­mote a bet­ter under­stand­ing of the dis­ease and its dif­fer­ent stages, inspired by each person’s unique con­text and reality.

A fea­ture on Zoom will allow us to split into sep­a­rate groups. We will have every­one join together at the begin­ning of the group. We will then break out into two groups:

1) One group for peo­ple liv­ing with ALS

2) Another group for their care­givers

Novem­ber 3rd - Work­shop on self-​care for care­givers (in Eng­lish)

What does Self-​Care Mean to You?

This work­shop will explore the chal­lenges of car­ing for one­self while car­ing for oth­ers, using a self-​reflective approach and exam­in­ing feel­ings of guilt often asso­ci­ated with self-​care. It will also touch upon how the pres­sures of being a care­giver are inter­linked with the chal­lenges con­fronting the health­care sys­tem in respond­ing to the needs of care­givers and indi­vid­u­als who want to remain at home. Par­tic­i­pants will have an oppor­tu­nity to engage in an activ­ity dur­ing this work­shop, fol­lowed by a Q&A.

Novem­ber 12 — Zoom Cock­tail for caregivers!

To express our appre­ci­a­tion, we would like to vir­tu­ally invite care­givers to spend a relax­ing moment together and have some fun. Dur­ing this vir­tual gath­er­ing we will also be pre­sent­ing a few tes­ti­mo­ni­als with the group and exchang­ing a few words of appre­ci­a­tion. As an added bonus, a care­giver will have the chance to win a fab­u­lous prize as part of a draw!

We are pleased to announce a new agree­ment with Loca­tion Légaré, a vehi­cle rental spe­cial­ist in the greater Mon­treal area. They agreed to offer all fam­i­lies who are mem­bers of the ALS Soci­ety of Que­bec a pref­er­en­tial rate on the rental of an adapted vehi­cle (dis­count rang­ing from 12 to 25% of the reg­u­lar price depend­ing on the length of the rental).
